Redesigned Book Cover

The purpose of this project was to redesign the book “Wonder” because it was always one of my favorite books growing up. Wonder follows Auggie, a boy born with a facial difference, as he attends school for the first time. One important part of Auggie’s character is that he loves space. His love of space reflects his imagination and resilience, helping him cope and reminding readers that what’s inside a person matters far more than how they look.

Process Work

I started by creating a mood board and concept map to help with my ideas for the design of the cover.

I knew I wanted to make my design have an astronaut as the center figure, and make the background space themed. I used Illustrator to make vector graphics of an astronaut, earth, and rocket ship for the front cover. I decided to make the font a light blue, which contrasted with the dark blue background to make the design cohesive. I matched the title font similar to the font on the original book cover, and added a clean sans-serif font for the rest of the design.
